A Bibliography for Web Developers
Syllabus | Table of Pages | Assignments | References and Useful Links
A note on texts: I post examples and notes on all topics covered in the course. Many students may prefer to have books for references, but I have found that most want to avoid the expense. If you would like to acquire a book reference shelf for this course, I recommend these; older works may be found as quite affordable used books via the Amazon or Barnes and Noble web sites:
HTML
HTML & CSS, 5th ed.
2010. Thomas Powell. McGraw Hill (Osborne). 856 p.
HTML & XHTML, 4th ed.
2003. Thomas Powell. McGraw Hill (Osborne). 932 p.
Murach's HTML5 and CSS3
2011. Zak Ruvalcaba. Mike Murach & Associates. 656 p.
JavaScript
JavaScript: The Definitive Guide: Activate Your Web Pages
2011. David Flanagan. O'Reilly Media; 6th edition (May 10, 2011). 1098 p.
Javascript, 2nd ed.
2004. Thomas Powell. McGraw Hill (Osborne). 948 p.
CSS
The course uses the two hands-on-training texts by Eric Meyer. Meyer's O'Reilly book takes this deeper, and does a particularly nice job with print media.
CSS: The Definitive Guide, 3rd Edition. 2007. Eric Meyer. O'Reilly. 518 p.
See also Thomas Powell's HTML & CSS, above, which provides a pretty good reference.
Design of Content
Designing Web Usability. 2000. Jacob Nielsen. New Riders. 419 p.
